The EROWA clamping system is like plug and play vices for CNC machining. The system consists of a base plate that is fastened to the bed of the machine, or a particular axis, and there are various attachments that connect to the base plate.
The attachment holds the part in place while machining or inspecting. There is a standard part holder that you can bolt on your own custom fixtures, there's also a self-centering vice attachment with various detachable jaws. The magnet chuck attachment is of my own design and is simply a magnetic chuck, commonly used in surface grinding, bolted onto the standard part holder. I use this magnetic part holder for inspection purposes and not for CNC machining.
The base uses pneumatic pressure to hold and release the attachments, and the self-centering vice also uses pneumatics to open and close the jaws. This makes it perfect for automated CNC machining with the use of robots for loading and unloading parts. The biggest advantage of using the EROWA system is that you can remove a part from the CNC machine, inspect it, then put it back into the machine and cut it again. There is no need to clock the part back into its previous position. This means that you can cut one piece of material over and over leading to less scrap pieces during the setting stages of production.
I use this system to move parts between measuring machines (CMM's) and milling machines (CNC's) during the production of steam turbine blades.
