My design began with the idea of creating a monument that was both visually interesting and a sculpture that people could interact with. My original idea consisted of creating a large tree sculpture, large enough to allow for a room within the trunk of the tree. As the idea developed I found the scale challenging to work with and impractical. This is where the idea of creating a space formed with four smaller trees came to mind. This space is in a way a monument for the betterment of metal and physical stability, especially in a college setting. The idea behind it is that this will be a place for people to gather and mediate, relax, or simply take a few moments out of their day to collect their thoughts. The idea for using trees came from the actual setting of Drew University and creating something that would blend and not take away from its surroundings. The mirrored glass surface adds to this idea in that it would blend in with its surroundings while creating a sculpture that is visually appealing.
