Saunders Roe SR45 Princess

Saunders Roe SR45 Princess

PM3D
Championed by Arthur Gouge, designer of the Short’s Emipire C, G, and Sunderland flying boats, after he left Shorts and joined Saunders Roe in 1943. Designed for BOAC by Air Ministry contract in 1946, by Gouge and Henry Knowler, Chief Designer of Saro. Incorporating much learnt over many years of operation of the Empire and Sunderland flying boats. A masterpiece of large flying boat design, second only in size to the Spruce Goose, but with a much better performance. 5190 miles range at 365 mph at 34,500 ft. Hindered during its short development career by the poor reliability of the ten early design Bristol Proteus turboprops engines, and sidelined by BOAC’s refusal to continue with flying boat operation. A true beauty, and a major engineering achievement by a small company. Dynamic floats, flaps and props. #Aeroplane #Airliner #Airplane #BOAC #Boat #dynamic #Flying #Princess #prop #Saro #Saunders #turboprop
