Cashiers Elementary School

Cashiers Elementary School

This is a model of the old Cashiers Elementary School in Cashiers, North Carolina, which was constructed in 1938, replacing an old wooden schoolhouse nearby. The building offered a more comfortable learning environment, with restrooms and central heating, but had a separate wooden cafeteria building that was not very well liked by the students. By the 1950s, the building was in need of expansion due to increased enrollment, and thus it was tripled in size with an addition of three classrooms, a cafeteria, library and Gym. The building served in this configuration up until the 1970s, when it was consolidated with Glenville School, forming Blue Ridge School, which is still open today. Today, the original building is gone, while the 1950s addition has been altered beyond recognition. Feel free to use this model as you see fit, on the condition that you contact me first so I know where it is being used (I'd love to see it wherever it ends up), and give me a mention or credit wherever it is used or published. #School #MidCenturyModern #Rural #HistoricArchitecture
