The building was designed by the architect Peter-Jan Nagel in 1957. He chose a modern international style, with a touch of art-deco. For he had visited Miami and fallen in love with its beautiful art-deco waterfront.
The building marks the beginning of the transition from the wooden colonial architecture towards a modern building style.
Nowadays (2015), internet has replaced the postal service, and the building is temporarily out of a job.
