BOAC Flight 600 was a flight between Montreal, canada and London,uk. On the 3rd of august 1971, Flight 600 was operated by a Boeing 747-100. Just after takeoff from Montreall, the airport received a call saying there was a bomb on the aircraft. The person calling said that it was an altitude bomb and would detonate if the aircraft flew below 5000ft. They said they would reveal the location of the bomb only if BOAC paid $250,000. The ATC informed the pilots of the 747 and they decided to divert to Denver, colorado. The diversion took 3,200 miles (almost the full flight to london) and landed at Denver. Denver was chosen because its airport was above 5000ft (5300ft). The Bomb squad serched the aircraft but no bomb was ever found. It was revealed to be a hoax and the aircraft flew to New York for a change of crews then flew on to London. The hoax was thought to be inspired by the movie Doomsday flight.
