The original Pullen Hall was burned by a student arsonist in February 1965. The building which was located where the Peele Hall parking lot is now housed an auditorium a reading room and a dining hall. It was the center of college and community activities for many decades even including pranks such as locking a bear in the building in protest against compulsory church services. The fire destroyed band instruments and music including all campus copies of the Alma Mater. NC State's first basketball game on campus was played in the original Pullen Hall in 1911.
