Old Arsenal Powder Magazine

Old Arsenal Powder Magazine

JeffyT
The existing building was constructed around 1838 to serve as magazine to the U.S. Army arsenal in Baton Rouge. The magazine was seized by the state militia upon Louisiana's seccession from the union in 1861. Baton Rouge was captured by U.S. forces in May 1862. The building was turned over to the Department of the Interior after the Civil War, and was given to Louisiana State University in 1886. The building now serves as a museum and a reminder of Louisiana's rich history. #arsenal #louisiana #museum #powder_magazine
