TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN EVER LOVING MEMORY OF THE MEN OF GODMANCHESTER
WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1919
The following information is taken from ( http://www.roll-of-honour.com ) See web link for the Godmanchester Link. The memorial is to be found on a small green at the Huntingdon end of the borough and takes the form of a classical cross made from Stancliffe stone mounted on a massive plinth with a three-stepped base; each of the points of the cross has been enriched with a fleur-de-lys. There are 77 names for World War 1 and 13 for World War 2. The memorial was unveiled on 1st January 1921 by Major-General Pilcher and re-dedicated in 1947 when the World War 2 names were added. The architect was Mr Alfred B Yates; the monies were raised by public subscription. #Godmanchester #November_11th #Poppy #Remembrance #Remembrance_Day #Roll_Of_Honour #Soldiers #The_Great_War #War #War_Memorial #World_War_1 #World_War_2 #WW1 #WW2
