[[Note: This model is outdated. Please see v2 in the same collection for a more complete and up-to-date. I will eventually update the stairs on this version and include them in the new model.]]
The model shows a twin-size (75" x 39") bunk bed concept for younger kids. The model was designed for “minimal” cutting, i.e., what is available at Home Depot and currently only reflects the nominal sizes.
With a 6” mattress, the bottom bunk is 10” off the floor. The frame of the top bunk is 40” above the floor and has an extra 1’ on the end to allow the bottom bunk to fit in the alcove or at an L shape. The stairs use 15 identical (1x8x24” top and bottom; 1x6x24” sides) rectangular boxes with a 1x6x6” block in the middle.
Update (11.16.12): Raised the railing to 12.5 inches above frame (~8.5” above mattress).
Update (11.18.12): Added additional side and end railings and shortened pole spacing to 3” to comply with ASTM standards (more to do). However, now need to rework stair railings. Stairs should be easily separated (once bolts removed).
Update (11.20.12): Adjusted railings and stairs. #bed #bunk_bed #twin_bed
