Pilgrim Fathers (commonly known as Mayflower) Memorial, Southampton, UK

The memorial was unveiled in 1913. The following paragraph is an extract from a plaque on the memorial:- -------- The Separatist Congregation from Babworth, Nottinghamshire (1586 - 1604), which moved to Scrooby in 1606, to Amsterdam, Netherlands, in 1608, and to Leyden in 1609, sailed from Delft Haven in the Speedwell, on August 1 (New Style), 1620, to join the Mayflower, with its London colonists, here. Both ships sailed on August 15 (N.S.), 1620, for the New World. After turning back to Dartmouth, and a second time to Plymouth for repairs, the Speedwell was abandoned, and on September 16 (N.S.), the Mayflower alone sailed to Plymouth, New England, with 102 passengers.-------- There is another monument across the Atlantic at Cape Cod commemorating the Mayflower Pilgrims’ first landing in the New World in Provincetown, in November 1620 (Google Earth Fly to 42°03'07.87"N 70°11'19.15"W). #Mayflower #Memorial #Pilgrim #Southampton
