DLR viaduct and old South Quay station

DLR viaduct and old South Quay station

Simon W.
The DLR is elevated on a viaduct for much of its route down the Isle of Dogs. This model is of the section between Heron Quays and South Quay stations, a distance of about half a mile. The platforms and canopies in the model are those of the old South Quay station, one which was damaged in an IRA bombing in 1996. Although the station was rebuilt, it was unsuitable for the ongoing expansion of platforms to accomodate 3-car trains due to curves either side, and so in 2009 a new station was constructed about 100 yards to the east. The old station is still in situ rather than being demolished in order to avoid closing the line. A DLR B07 stock train is leaving Heron Quays in the model. #closed #DLR #Docklands #London #quay #south #station #train #viaduct
