Indium is the chemical element of atomic number 49. Its symbol is In. This rare, malleable and low-melting metal is chemically similar to aluminum and gallium but even more to zinc, whose minerals are the main source of this element. Indium is mainly used to coat other materials with a thin film that has a lubricating function (during World War II it was widely used to coat the bushings of high performance aircraft).
