Hercus 260 Lathe, combination Apron, Carriage and Compound Slide Deflector. The size and geometry of this model will fit a Hercus 260 Lathe, and likely be very close to the geometry for a South Bend 10 inch lathe. The Deflector is NOT designed as a Guard and/or Shield, Safety Glasses must still be worn. The design is simply to deflect most Chips and Cutting Fluid back to the lathe. Each component is on it's own LAYER, Therefore, open SketchUp's LAYER'S window then you can turn on or off any component to better understand the model. The first Deflector was made using 1/8 door skin, with 1 coat of Fibreglass epoxy resin, followed by 2 coats of Gel-coat The 1/8" x 3/4" x length panel connector plates are made of aluminum. The panels could be made of 1/8" aluminum, and cut out by a water jet pattern cutter. I will add 2D models, so the dimensions are easier to determine, for perhaps a water jet pattern cutter.
