Gaudi's Bishops Palace in Astorga, Spain

Gaudi's Bishops Palace in Astorga, Spain

David A.
Description
In 1889, the catalan architect Antoni Gaudí designed this neo-gothic style building by request of his friend the bishop of Astorga, Joan Baptista Grau i Vallespinós. After the death of the bishop, Gaudí gave up the project, but others used his original plans to finish the work in 1915. Although the building was designed as residence for the bishop, it was never used to this function. Since the'60s to the present it is a museum focused on the Way of St James. This building is next to a 15th century cathedral and a roman defensive wall, forming a diverse group of special architectural and historical interest. #Astorga #camino_de_Santiago #Castilla_y_León #España #Gaudi #León #museo #museum #neogothic #neogótico #palace #palacio #Pèlerinage_de_SaintJacques #Spain #way_of_st_james
