The thermal (diesel) power station generated a total energy of 574 GWh in 2008, representing 25.3% of the total energy produced in Mauritius and 63% of the Central Electricity Board (CEB is the major supplier of electricity in Mauritius) production. As such, it is the main and most powerful power plant on the island having an effective capacity of 137 megawatts with 5 generating units. Fort George is equipped with 5 chimneys, 3 of them standing at 65 metres above ground level.
