Split Rock Lighthouse

Split Rock Lighthouse

Matt B.
Description
Split Rock Light was built in 1910 atop a 130-foot cliff to guide ships along the rugged and dangerous shoreline of Lake Superior. A clamshell-shaped second-order Fresnel lens projected a beam of light up to 22 miles in clear weather, flashing once every 10 seconds. The lighthouse was decommissioned in 1969 and acquired by the Minnesota Historical Society in 1971.
