The High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV or Humvee) is a military 4WD motor vehicle created by AM General in 1980 as a replacement vehicle for use in the US military and coninues it it's role as a major military vehicle up to the present day, having supplanted the roles formerly served by smaller Jeeps such as the M151 1/4 ton MUTT, the M561 "Gama Goat", their M718A1 and M792 ambulance versions, the CUCV, and other light trucks. Primarily used by the United States military, it is also used by numerous of other countries and organizations and even in civilian adaptations. During this time, is has seen several generations of officially sanctioned tire / wheel combinations. This model represents one possible fifth generation "new concept" non-pneumatic (airless) tire currently in development by Resilent Technologies and the University of Wisconsin–Madison's Polymer Engineering Center. With a four-year, $18-million grant from the Pentagon, this prototype tire, in development since 2008, has been designed to support the weight of newer "up-armored" humvees and sustain speeds up to 50 mph, and is able to remain viable even if 30% of the honeycomb web has been removed. #air_force #army #Goodyear #HMMWV #hummer #humvee #marine #military #navy #radial #tire #vehicle #wheel
