The panel to the right of the disk drive can open to reveal USB, SD, etc ports.
The disk drive has a touch sensitive panel so that by touching the drive <the black part on the end of the tray> it will open or close. The on/off switch is the green X in the front.
It communicates with the display device via wireless Display Port <compatible with HDMI> and component.
EDIT: The PS3 doesn't even have a disc drive tray, plus the PS3's body is touch sensitive not the actual drive.
