02 Manager's Cabin

02 Manager's Cabin

Bill M.
Description
The Manager's Cabin provided on premises housing for the plantation manager (almost always male) and his family. For the time period, this was rather luxurious accommodations for a plantation employee. To be economically profitable, the plantation had to be efficiently managed. A successful owner needed to employ an overseer, or manager, to help run the plantation. It was the overseer who supervised the work in the fields. Since it was he who dealt directly with the field slaves, his kindness or cruelty had a direct impact on their lives. The owner’s family most likely dealt only with a few house servants, drivers, and craftsmen. #33485539N #84_83960W #Antebellum_Plantation #Stone_Mountain_Memorial_Park
