Serbian military cemetery in Zejtinlik is placed in Thessaloniki and in this complex are the graves of the Serbian, French, Italian, English and Russian soldiers, killed in the battles and breaketrough of the Thessaloniki front during the First World War. The complex of the cemeteries was built on the location where was the Main field hospital of the Serbian army since 1916. With this hospital was the cemetery, which in time grew into this complex.
Zejtinlik got name after the Turkish word for ojl (zejtin). In this area, near Thessaloniki, was the oil (zejtin) market in the days of the Ottoman Empire. Although the market is closed, the name remained in use by the local population until the First World War.
