Paramaribostraat is a street in one of the most desirable districts in The Hague: the Archipelbuurt. The Archipelbuurt, most of which was developed from 1869 to 1900, is a beautiful area typified by its high, white-framed windows, various types of masonry with string courses, and classic elements such as cornices, stone plinths and façade ornaments. An important design objective in developing the nine new houses in La Palmyre was to include references to the historic characteristics of these charming, richly detailed houses in order to maintain the harmonious quality of the architecture on Paramaribostraat. Because one of the requirements was that no more than five of the same houses could be built in a row, each house was thus given its own characteristics.
