BioTestLake - Forsmark

Stefan L.
This isle is a reaserch facility where studies of the effect of cooling water takes place. Monitoring of cooling-water impacts in the marine environment at the Forsmark nuclear power plant started in 1980 when the first reactor began operating. The bigger lake is for the cooling water coming from the two reactors F1 and F2. The water comes from pipes underground to the lake with a temperature of about 10 degrees Celsius, 50 degrees Fahrenheit, warmer then the temperature in the sea. The narrow lake is for the third reactor, F3, since it started later and Forsmark let build a separate lake so the reaserch would not get disrupted. This study is the only one in the world, one of its kind, and the result is basically that the fishes in the lake become bigger since they get more food to eat, in the warmer water.
