Electronic configuration The promethium (originally prometheus) is the chemical element with atomic number 61 and atomic weight 145. It is a synthetic element and its symbol is Pm. All its isotopes are radioactive; it is one of the only two elements that in the periodic table is followed by elements with stable forms, a common characteristic with technetium. Chemically, the promethium belongs to the family of lanthanides, which forms salts when combined with other elements.
