One thing that makes this building distinct, is that it is one of the first buildings to have a roof top farm.
"Brooklyn Grange is open for business. The one-acre commercial farm on an industrial rooftop above Long Island City, Queens, held its inaugural “vegetable cutting” ceremony on Wednesday featuring appearances from City Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer and Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn, seen above flanking Ben Flanner, the grange’s chief farmer, in the cauliflower patch. The farm, at 37-18 Northern Boulevard, is already producing basil, Swiss chard, kale and a dozen other crops and selling them on site every Tuesday and Thursday. It’s also open daily to visitors."
