Roman Marching Camp - Dolabra (Pick Ax)

Roman Marching Camp - Dolabra (Pick Ax)

MorBius
The Roman pick axe known as a dolabra was standard issue equipment of the Roman legions. This tool was used for entrenching and camp building, as well as an emergency weapon, at least when ambushed while performing these activities. In reality, many soldiers would have used this tool much more than their weapons. When on the march, every night required the building of a fully fortified camp, and this tool was one of the ones used in the construction of that camp. The tool was accompanied by a decorative sheath covering the exposed blade which was often decorated with beads and / or pendants that most likely would have jingled while on the march. This model depicts one of several variations of this versatile tool, including the decorative sheath, which can be toggled on or off via the Layer Manager #ax #camp #entrenching_tool #legion #legionary #march #marching #pick #pickax #pickas #roman #rome #tool
