Rijksmuseum
The Rijksmuseum was built by the famous architect Petrus Josephus Hubertus Cuypers and was completed in 1885, when it was the largest building in The Netherlands. The design is a very personal and eclectic style in which the Catholic Cuypers mixed elements from the early Dutch renaissance with Gothic details. The style met mixed reviews and some negative critics called it ‘the bishop’s palace’. The large building enabled expansion of the governmental collections. The museum now attracts more than one million visitors per year. It is currently undergoing renovation but is still open to visitors. #Amsterdam #Jan_Luikenstraat #Rijksmuseum
