This was my first idea for a lab bench. I had an old laminated top I planned on cutting to size. The top was warped so my plan was to use a bunch of cheap brackets from the home improvement store. The brackets I picked are for framing houses, galvanized and dirt cheap. The keyboard tray was already on the top, made from a wood stair and with some drawer slides. This had two shelves, one for small parts, and one for big tools and a computer. In the end I decided I really wasn't willing to work around the old table top because it wasn't as deep as I wanted.
However, a good idea came out of the short top. Along the back is a slot that a 2x4 can fit through. Underneath is a side of the 2x6 where the 2x4 could be screwed in. This allows monitor stands, or soldering iron stands to be easily installed along the back of the bench. It is a cool feature, but in the end I decided the top was more important that the mounting since the table would be standing against a wall where I can mount whatever I want. #computer_bench #lab_bench #workbench
