If you want to know more about Aeroe and its history and culture the Aero Museum in Ærøskøbing is the place to visit. The museum displays items related to the town, sea and rural environments - including a collection of special regional costumes. For the youngest museum-goers a small collection of toys is offered and for those with ‘green fingers’ the garden museum is something that absolutely must be seen! Aeroe Museum is also home to some of the many paintings made by incoming artists when the fascinating landscape of the island revealed itself to them. Some of them settled permanently and throughout communities local artists artist emerged as well. Ærøskøbing also attracted the interest of its old houses and the urban environment, and best known is probably Pietro Krohns painting: "On a street corner in Ærøskøbing 'from the 1869th. Additionally the museum displays an urban model, which shows in 3 dimensions Ærøskøbing as it looked in 1862 and the prestigious ‘Europa Nostra’ price which was awarded to the city in 2003 in recognition of its efforts to preserve its original architectural features.
