St. Patrick's Well ("Pozzo di San Patrizio") in Orvieto, Umbria - central Italy, was built by architect-engineer Antonio da Sangallo the Younger of Orvieto at the behest of Pope Clement VII between 1527 and 1537. The well was completed in 1537 during the papacy of Pope Paul III. Mules carried the water vessels along two separated spiral ramps. The cylindrical construction is 53.15 metres deep with a base diameter of 13 metres. There are 248 steps and 70 windows provide illumination. NOTE: this simplified model is for Google Earth only. A more complex model - in which e.g. the lights can be switched on and off , the doors can be opened or closed and which includes a virtual tour - can be found elsewhere in my model collection. #Italy #Orvieto #pozzo #Saint_Patricks_Well #San_Patrizio #well
