Royal mountain lodge of Ludwig II king of Bavaria (1845-1886). Designed by Joseph Röhrer and Georg Dollmann and build on the Schachenpeak ,1866 metre high (6122 feet). Construction of the simple wooden lodge in the Swiss chalets-style started spring 1870 en was in 1871/72 enlarged with a beautiful decorated Turkish room on the first floor. Ludwig II was fascinated by the world of the Orient and was among others inspired by the Moorish Kiosk at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1867. Ludwig preferred the solitude of the mountainregion and Schachen was one of his favorite places. Schachen can only be visited on feet and during the summer.
