Ernst Thälmann Büste

Ernst Thälmann Büste

Aerilius
The Ernst Thälmann Bust was inaugurated at the Playa RDA (German Democratic Republic Beach) in Cuba in 1972. Fidel Castro had donated this beach inclusive of a 15 km long island to the German Democratic Republic (socialist east Germany). However, today, this beach is not crowded by tourists but it's a cuban military restricted area. Moreover the German Department for Foreign Affairs and the Cuban Embassy agree that it was only matter of a symbolic donation and not a transfer of sovereign territory. Ernst Thälmann was a German communist leader who was deported in 1933 and later executed on Hitler's orders. He served as an idol for the propaganda of East Germany's socialist regime with lots of buildings and places named after him. In 1998, his bust was tilt over by hurricane Mitch and since then nobody has yet approached this abandonned island in the Caribbean. #Alemania #Allemagne #beach #Cayo_Ernesto_Thaelmann #Cuba #DDR #Deutschland #Ernst_Thälmann #German_Democratic_Republic #Germany #Kuba #playa #República_Democrática_Alemana #Strand
