Star Trek Weapons - The Search for Spock - Type 2 Hand Phaser Prototype (2284)

Under authority of Starfleet’s Tactical Division, Personal phasers come in three types: The small, concealable phaser type-1 (hand phaser), the larger more powerful phaser type 2, and the still larger phaser type 3, also known as the phaser rifle, all of which operate by firing a nadion particle beam formed by passing plasma through a phase emitter, with the intensity and field of the beam producing a wide variety of effects. With the continued advancements in phaser technology, Starfleet Tactical in November 2283 contracted with Sestra Weapons Group, developer of the original Type 2 Phaser (2266) to develop a new hand phaser system, following the issue of Ataiskes Phaser Corporation’s Type 2 - Model 4 Hand Phaser to Starfleet personnel in 2281. By 2284, a Sestra prototype weapon was developed, and as with its’ famous Type 2 predecessor, consisted of the small hand-held Phaser 1b, together with the separate handle assembly used to form the more powerful Phaser 2b weapon, but featuring an improved cooling and control system and a new simpler “speed setting" system of beam force selection. This model depicts this early prototype design. *** Please Note: While this prototype phaser model was originally designed by George Lucas’ Industrial Light & Magic studios for the third Star Trek movie “Star Trek 3: The Search for Spock” in 1984, it was never used during the actual filming. Instead, an almost identical but modified model was used in the movie #Earth #Enterprise #firearm #gun #nadion #phaser #pistol #Roddenberry #Sci_fi #Scifi #Search_for_Spock #Sestra #Space #Space_travel #Spock #Star_Trek #Starfleet #Starfleet_Tactical #Startrek #The_Search_for_Spock #weapon
