Black Cow Bistro, Lucks Corner 1937, Launceston

Black Cow Bistro, Lucks Corner 1937, Launceston

Robin V.
This sleek, 2 story Art Deco building was built in 1937 as G Luck's Butcher. A rare feature in Launceston, Lucks Corner still retains all its original, ground level facade and shop front which includes original doors, chrome borders, glazed black tiles and misted windows bearing the name "G Luck Butcher". The building is instantly recognisable by its long, streamlined shape with a rounded corner and geometric "tile" pattern that covers all of the upper facade. Small details such as the "plaques" which bear the street numbers give the building a distinct Art Deco character. Lucks Corner now operates as the up-market, Black Cow Bistro which specialises in Tasmanian Beef, befitting to the building's origins.
