This model represents an earthen mound and enclosure site located near Eldorado, Argentina, dating to around the 13th-14th century. Most of the site has now eroded away however this model was constructed using data from a 1957 survey by O.F. Menghin when the causeway and lower part of the main enclosure was still visible from the ground. Recent excavation of the site by Jose Iriarte and others, funded by National Geographic, revealed several interesting features and suggested that feasting took place along the earthen embankments. The central mound may have been the location of a prestigious burial that served as the focus for the feasting. This model is the result of a project to explore the potential of Sketchup and Google Earth to display archaeological information about a site that may be of use to students and the general public, it is not affiliated with National Geographic.
