Lichttoren

Lichttoren

Poul
In 1891, Frederik Philips and his son Gerard started a company to manufacture carbon filament bulbs in a textiles factory on the Emmasingel. The company name was Philips & co and it expanded at a tremendous rate and soon also occupied premises on the other side of the street. In the period 1919 – 1921, a heptagonal tower was constructed at the end of the street in which continuous bulb life tests were performed. This building was the Lichttoren / Light Tower. The Lichttoren is a unique building, certainly in an architectural-historical sense. Its functionality and efficiency, and the use of concrete, glass and metal make it a paragon of New Objectivity. #3dClearEarth #Gemeente_Eindhoven #lichttoren #Philips
