Butterdome (Universiade Pavilion)

University of Alberta W.
This is the Universiade Pavilion (1983), better known as "the Butterdome." The Pavilion connects to the Van Vliet Physical Education and Recreation Centre. Built for the World Universiade Games and the University's 75th Anniversary, the Pavilion is an amazing facility containing not only full-scale facilities for track and field events, but also facilities for numerous other sports including volleyball, basketball, tennis, badminton, gymnastics, soccer, European handball, and a climbing wall. The Butterdome has 2300 permanent seats, 2900 retractable bleacher seats, and concession facilities so it is an ideal location for competitions and tournaments. It is also used by thousands of students and staff for intramural activities. Above the main entrance is the Pavilion tower containing offices, lounges, the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation General Office, and the Department of Athletics Office. #Alberta #Butter #Butterdome #Canada #Dome #Edmonton #North_Campus #Recreation #U_of_A #University_of_Alberta
