the construction of the belfry in the center hall symbolizes aldermen from 1380 these freedoms. Douai is also an important grain market on Place d'Armes. The decline of the drapery encouraged aldermen to call itself a university in Douai in 1562. Owned by the Netherlands Flemish and Burgundian, and possession of the kings of Spain, the city was taken in 1667 by Louis XIV and held in France. The King turned it into an important military (barracks, cannon foundry, arsenal ...), then transfers in 1714 the Parliament of Flanders previously installed in Tournai. #Beffroi #chateau #Douai #drapery #France
