The MuseumsQuartier Wien is one of the ten largest cultural complexes in the world. But above all, it is a forward-looking, inner-city cultural district that will have an enormous impact on future trends. The MuseumsQuartier unites baroque buildings, new architecture, cultural institutions of all sizes, various disciplines of art, and recreational facilities in a single spectacular location.Today's MuseumsQuartier is built on a site that witnessed an eventful history. Almost three hundred years have passed since the construction of the royal stables at the beginning of the 18th century, their later use as a venue for trade fairs and exhibits, and the official opening of the MuseumsQuartier in 2001.
With its design of the MuseumsQuartier Wien, the architectural firm Ortner & Ortner created a place that combines the existing historic buildings with contemporary architecture in a spectacular manner. Manfred Wehdorn was responsible for the expert adaptation of the landmarked portions of the buildings. The MuseumsQuartier is being created in a revitalized complex of baroque stables in the heart of Vienna.
