Three single 6m diameter dead straight tunnels between Melbourne, Albury, Canberra and Parramatta would kill all air traffic Sydney to Melbourne costing a total of $35b and earning $1b per year when finished in one year.
This would be done using a Japanese Maglev in a tunnel fitted with an exhaust valve either end of the tunnel to maintain about 7psi pressure to allow twice the speed at half the cost.
Not only would it create a monopoly on that route but as well as the 5,000 seat cars having a one hour turnaround the 20 minute trip between each city would have huge potential for value capture.
As the station would be near the surface I would imagine it to be open cut with carpark and buildings on top.
Segmental lining would be continued the length of the station to isolate the tunnel from it.
Inner and outer doors could only be opened when normal pressure is resumed one minute after tunnel air door is closed.
Transferring passengers would use the centre station platform where those to and from the surface would use the outside ones
