Archaeopteryx lithographica
Hailed by many as the first bird, archaeopteryx first appeared in the late jurassic, some 145 million years ago. The fossils of this bird were found in the quarries of germany, along with many pterosaurs and fish. This bird had the light bones and feathers of a modern bird, but it also had the claws, tail, and teeth of a small carnivorous dinosaur. this discovery caused a tremendous stir in the scientific community of the 1800's and further boosted Darwin's supporters and thier idea of evolution.
