Telefonica's sponsorship contract ended in 2004 so the logo wasn't allowed on the car this year. To make up for the loss of space the Telefonica logos on the side were replaced with Boxy 8D logos, the Telefonica logos on the rear bumper were removed and the TelefonicaBlue and TelefonicaYellow were replaced with ShellRed and PetronasGreen. The Shell logos were updated to feature the brand new V Power fuel. The livery which has red and amber on one side and silver and yellow on the other was inspired by the 1999 BAR 001 F1 car.
Gene Jean, Jean Gene and Ralph Terra won whilst Luigi Montermini, Giancarlo Baguetto, Pedro Libre and Larry Carlton came 3rd.
