Blackfoot Post Office

Blackfoot Post Office

Ken H.
Completed in December of 1935, this post office is unique in that it has a hand painted mural done by Andrew Standing Soldier, a young Sioux Indian artist from Pine Ridge, S.D. He was commissioned by the federal government and spent over 9 weeks painting not with oils but in egg emulsion with color pigment added. He then applied a protective coating over it of clear starch. The mural is now considered an historical treasure. Wages at the time of construction included: Laborers - .45 per hour, carpenters - .80 per hour, masons - 1.12 per hour, painters - .80 per hour #Andrew_Standing_Soldier #Blackfoot #Indian_mural #post_office
