Description
This dwelling is a loft home located in San Francisco, California. The exterior is a combination of reclaimed lumber, recycled glass, and concrete. The roof is green, made to hold vegetation. Green roofs moderate a home's temperature by keeping it insulated. They also help filter the air in the surrounding areas. I felt this would help because of the locaton, filtering the air pollution released by the cars and surrounding city. It also helps with drainage from rainfall and is easier to maintain than standard gutters. Rainfall in San Francisco is sufficient enough to maintain the roof vegetation with the required water without excess runoff. The inside ifloorplan is open, with a loft, helping air flow throughout the home. There are ample windows on all sides to help with circulation allowing the house to be open from front to back. I wanted to use a combination of materials and textures, using as much recycled or reclaimed material as possible. The carbon footprint is small (only 750 square feet), and really could be built anywhere. But because San Francisco property is expensive, this home is perfect. #architecture #design_your_dwelling_2008 #dwell_competition #Nikki_Antolic #San_Francisco #Up_On_the_Roof_House
