Description
The Triumphpforte (Triumph Gate) is one of the best known sights in Innsbruck. It's situated at the southern End of Maria-Theresien-Straße, the former south end of the city. The gate was constructed in 1765 to mark the marriage of archduke Leopold, the second son of Maria Theresa of Austria and Francis I, Holy Roman Emperor, with Maria Luisa of Spain. Due to Francis unexpected death in 1765, the northern front of the gate shows themes of sorrow, while the southern front depicts themes of the young couples marriage. #1765 #Austria #Habsburg #Habsburgermonarchie #Innsbruck #Leopold #Maria_Ludovica #MariaTheresienStraße #Monarchie #Monarchy #Tirol #triumph_gate #Triumphpforte #Österreich
