This 3-d scene is used for training potential volunteers and clients on how to propagate and plant hard and soft corals on Reef Balls. There are twp types of coral tables, floating & fixed. This is the fixed version.
The Reef Ball Foundation has developed techiques to propagate hard and soft corals using a beach based system that allows corals to be fragmented, stabilized into 30 second setting concrete plugs then replanted into recepticles designed for the plugs on Reef Ball artificial reefs. The process, from collecting the imperiled corals to replanting takes less than a day so corals are not stressed in artificial captive conditions. Our survival rates exceed 90% for delicate corals and are close to 100% for hardy ones. Because 90% of the work is done on land at the table rather than by scuba divers, the system is 10 times more efficient than prior reef restoration technologies. A team of 4 trained volunteers can typically progagate and plant about 500 corals per day.
