The Lighthouse Scheveningen is designed by Quirinus Harder and was completed in 1875. The red twelve-sided cast iron tower has a height of 49 meters and a light range of 29 nautical miles (53.5 kilometers). The tower has the status of a national monument. The lighthouse is located at the end of the boulevard near the Scheveningen harbor and fish market. The tower belongs to the municipality of The Hague. In the 16th century, Scheveningen availability to a square firebeacon. The church collected money from the ships who made use of the firebeacon. Around 1850, the structure was raised to increase visibility. The new lighthouse contained a copper dome and a new lamp. In the seventies of the nineteenth century, Quirinus Harder was commissioned to design the current lighthouse. The tower is built of cast iron.
