European-style workbench

Paul P.
This is a European style workbench with a left-sided leg vise, a large tail vise, and a tool tray. It has a very non-traditional corner vise (supported by in the real world by two heavy-duty drawer slides, though of course you can build it in a more traditional fashion) that operates independently of the tail vise, so that both styles of vise may be used. The worktop is MDF - heavy, replaceable, though not as hard as some of the more traditional woods - reflecting my personal opinion that if I drop a piece on the table, better that the table should be marked than that the piece be ruined. Most of the structure is spruce; southern yellow pine would be a good option where available. The corner vise is made of poplar and MDF - though harder woods would of course work, I'd rather a softer, more forgiving material. 3/4" dog holes are spaced regularly across table top and skirt. Finally, the base is of a knock-down trestle style #European #MDF #traditional #workbench
