He was commissioned to architect L. Vitruvius Cerda and was built around half of the first century AD, in honor of an important family of the city, the Gavia gens. During the medieval time, a city wall and was passed precisely's throw, so use it as a gateway to the city, among other things was much studied during the Renaissance. During French rule, was shot down, because considered a barrier to the passage of Napoleon's troops. The debris was left in the first place inside the Citadel and the Arena, and were used in 1932 for its reconstruction at the side of Castelvecchio, not far from where it originates.
