A 25,000 tonne German battlecruiser commissioned in 1913, the Seydlitz was involved in various actions from the outbreak of World War I. In 1914 and 1915 she assisted in the bombardment of a number of British coastal towns and, in 1915, was damaged during British and German fleet engagements over the Dogger Bank. At Jutland in 1916 she was reduced to a near-sinking condition, though not before her salvoes contributed to the destruction of the British battlecruiser, 'Queen Mary'. At the end of the War the German High Seas Fleet - including the 'Seydlitz' - was interned at Scapa Flow in the Orkney Islands where, in 1919, the ships were scuttled by their own crews. The hulk of the 'Seydlitz' was raised in 1928 and it was scrapped in 1930. Click View/Animation/Play for a flyaround. #ship, #navy, #war, #German, #fleet, #battlecruiser
